February 2025 Sustainable Fashion News

A check in about what has occurred in the world of sustainable fashion in February 2025.

E.L.V. Denim, an inspiration

For the first time in London Fashion Week history, a fully up-cycled fashion brand took its place on the official schedule. E.L.V. Denim (East London Vintage) has taken a huge step in redefining industry standards, proving at the biggest stage one must not sacrifice sustainability to be a successful and profitable high fashion brand. Their presence sets a powerful example of what’s possible when creativity and ethical values drive design and we at melody bloom are truly impressed. To read more, visit elvdenim.com.

EU textile waste laws

In a bid to significantly reduce the vast amounts of waste generated by the textile industry in the EU, around 12.6 million tonnes annually, and to push the industry toward more circular production methods, the EU has introduced new regulations aimed at improving waste management and producer accountability as a part of its 2025 Waste Framework Directive.

This Waste Framework Directive means that all brands distributing textiles within the EU are now held financially responsible for the collection, sorting, and recycling of their own textile waste as opposed to the public sector and tax-payers being responsible.

Textile producers in the EU will also be forced to pay a fee supporting the funding of waste collection, recycling, and treatment, which will be adjusted based on the sustainability, durability, and possibility of circularity that the productions allow for.

These measures align with the EU’s 2030 goal of ensuring that nearly all textiles on the market are durable, sustainable, recyclable, and made from recycled fibers. With this progress, we hope other countries will follow suit, and we look forward to seeing how these regulations shape the future of sustainable fashion in the years to come.

Handmade Bags Designed by Ben and Andy

We’re excited to announce the upcoming drop of 11 handmade bags, all crafted using repurposed or second-hand materials by our talented designers, Ben and Andy.

Andy created three bags using up cycled denim and corduroy, while Ben took a different approach, using fabric from pillowcases, placemats, and suit fabric to bring his designs to life.

Keep an eye out for the mini drop and don’t miss your chance to grab one of these unique tote bags!
